About Retroesque
HTML was one of those things I set my mind on learning. It was something that many people seemed to be able to do, and the way it all worked intrigued me - so I began to teach myself how it all worked. The thing that really contributed to my knowledge was blogger, as they allow you to ftp your blog to your own domain and edit the coding as you wish. So that was how I began, before I moved onto customising premade layouts and using iFrames, really I went through all the basic steps that any person would, learning html for a personal blog.I suppose I got bored of the hosting I had before - it didn't support php and I wanted to see if I could use prgrams like Cutenews, Enthusiast and Wak's Q and A - so when I got my exam results back, I used them to my advantage and convinced my parents to cough up for a domain and hosting.
There was of course a slight problem in my wonderful plan to get myself a proper website withough having to pay for it. I am the most indecisive peron in the world and after trying to come up with a domain for 6 months, I didn't think one that I wanted would just pop into my head because someone was willing to buy me it. I seriously sat in front of my computer screen for about 5 days after that, just trying to come up with something that I honestly liked. I wanted it to be short and catchy, sort of cute, sort of cool - just everything that was good. There were a few domains that other people had that sort of inspired me, but it got to the point where I was being so critial I realised even if I had though of these other people's really awesome domains myself, I would have shot them down.
So I went and sat under my living room table and decided I wouldn't come out until I had picked a domain. It didn't really work, cause my TV spontaniously turned itself on, so I had to come out to turn it off. However, The next time i got out form underneith that wonderful table was to go and find out if any domain with 'retroesque' in it was taken.
After that I deliberated a little longer, but I got so annoyed that I just decided to go for it, and went of to buy hosting and my domain http://retroesque.org. Well that went to plan XD, at the last minute Dad convinved me to go with the dot com - and I did - because it was truely retro, it was of course, the original extension.
What's in a Name?
Retroesque literally means, 'just soooo retro' [yesh, even with the silly American-like accent]. I have a love of things retro, their style, their music - just it all really. Besides, it's just a really cool word. The suffix 'esque' has always appealed to me, I will constantly attatch it to words because it gives them so much depth.
Besides, it's French, and french is sexy ;)
Basically, Retroesque fulfilled all the criteria I wanted in a domain, it's short, cute, sassy and to me, it's catchy. And so the name was selected :)
